Coach Julieta Nuñez
(Water World Swim Coach)
Water World Swim, International Division, proudly introduces to all our open water swimmers around the world, our new representative in Chile, Coach Julieta Nuñez.
Coach Nuñez is an avid open water swimmer born and raised right next to the Pacific Ocean in Chile, South America. She comes from a family of sailors and navy people who by tradition introduced her to open water swimming at a very early age. She is one of the most advanced students of world renowned Chilean coach Victor “Tiburon” Contreras who prepared her for the most challenging swims in Chile. Coach Nuñez has competed in and won many open water swim competitions in Chile and other Latin American countries.
Together with other swimmers, Coach Nuñez recently founded the first official, legally incorporated open water swim club in Chile, named, “ FullMar-Viña, with the legal backing of the Chilean Navy (Armada de Chile), supporting open water swim events.
Among her greatest successes as an open water swimmer, Coach Nuñez crossed the Straits of Magellan in 2007, as well as the Beagle Canal from Chile to Argentina. This year, in 2009, she again crossed the Straits of Magellan, making her the first person in the world to cross it two times
Coach Julieta Nuñez has travelled to places all around the world to compete. She has twice completed the most storied swim in San Francisco Bay, from Alcatraz Island to the San Francisco shore. Because of her success in these events and her solid experience in open water swims in Chile and elsewhere, Water World Swim Coach and Swim Director Pedro Ordenes has offered to become the Coach and Coordinator for some open water swims in Chile. With her representation, Water World Swim of San Francisco will have the opportunity to offer many swimmers from around the world the chance to swim in some of the most challenging and spectacular swims in the world.
Having lived part of her life in Wiesbaden, Germany, Coach Nuñez is trilingual, fluent not only in Spanish and English, but in German as well.

Virgilio Ruilova
(Water World Swim Assistant Coach)
Our new member of Water World Swim coaching team in Chile is Mr. Virgilio Ruilova. Virgil is a man in his late sixties, that have been atracted to the Pacific Ocean since he was a young boy. When he was in his twenties, he adventured by sailing solo from the Port of Valparaiso to the Chilean island Robinson Crusoe (situated more than 680 kilometers or 500 miles west of the Chilean Coast) Soon after he was atracted by the sport of Triathlon, and started to compete in many of these events, becoming the National Senior Champion Triathlete. After holding this title for many years, he became aware that open water swimming, besides of being more challenging, he developed passion for this sport.
After many hours of training he joined the school of one of the most well known open swim coaches in the world, Chilean coach Victor “Tiburon” Contreras, who guided trained Virgilio to cross on of the most challenging waters in the South of Chile, near the Patagonia., The Canal Chacao. Virgilio succeded this swim being 62 years. Also by crossing the Straits of Magellan in March 2009, being 69 years old. Having these two records making him to be added at the Guinnes World book of records.
He has become to be one of the National and South American champions on his age group. Virgilio now is an experts in crossing the waters of the Port of Valparaiso, Viña del Mar and other ports in Chile.
Virgilio es un hombre en sus sesentas , que a corta edad ya le llamaba la atención el mar, a los 20 años se aventuró en un yate desde la bahía de valparaiso a la isla de Robinson Crusoe. (Eastern Island)
Mas adelante le llamó la atención la triatlon y comenzo a competir llegando a ser campeón nacional senior, luego de muchos años de competencia se dió cuenta que el mar era su fuerte y empezó a nadar en aguas abiertas siendo alumno del destacado nadador Chileno Victor tiburón Contreras por muchos años, cruzo el Canal Chacao a los 62 años teniendo el record de guiness en edad así mismo tiene el record de guines en el cruce del Estrecho de Magallanes con 69 años, habiéndolo cruzado este reciente mes de Marzo del 2009. Ha sido campeón nacional de aguas abiertas en su categoria y ha participado de numerosas travesias en la bahia de valparaiso, viña del mar y coquimbo.
